Benedictine College Youth Conference
July 12th, 13th, and 14th
WORSHIP TEAM -- Please Read
This webpage will help to us to organize and streamline our communication. First, I want to THANK YOU for your commitment to the Lord and all the sacrifices that your making for the youth. God has chosen and called you to be a part of this awesome ministry! Please remember to keep the teens and everyone involved in this summer's conference in your daily prayers. There are a lot of people that are praying for us as we prepare to lead the teens in worship this summer.
The CONFERENCE DATES are: Friday (July 12th), Saturday (July 13th), and Sunday (July 14th).
We will kick off the conference on Friday night (July 12th) and the conference will end Sunday (July 14th) after Mass (around noon). Since we are going to need a fair amount of time to get a sound check as well as adjusted to the space and practice some, I would really really really like to have everyone at the college on Thursday evening/night (July 11th). That way we could start the sound check on Thursday night, get settled in, and finish up early Friday morning while still having some time to practice and relax a bit.
ALSO, there are 3 formations nights to prepare the teens for the summer conference. These formation nights will be at Christ the King parish in Omaha. If some of you can help with the worship on those nights that would be great. The dates for these 3 nights are:
1.) Tuesday, June, 25th @7pm - Christ the King (We play at the formation night)
2.) Tuesday, July 2nd @ 7pm - Christ the King (We play at the formation night)
3.) Tuesday, July 9th @ 7pm - Christ the King (We play at the formation night)
* On Saturday, June 8th we will have a day to meet everyone with pray, food, fellowship: roughly 9am-3pm. Even if you can for a little while it would be great to connect with the entire planning team for the summer conference.
Below is the Set List of the music for the conference. I'll send out a schedule of the weekend as soon as I get the final copy. I know this all seems like a lot with so little time, but it's not that bad if everyone takes the time before rehearsals to listen to and focus upon the dynamics of their particular instrument within each song (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitars, violin, keys, synth, bass, and drums). I encourage print out your sheet music and make notes. Mark up what your doing with your instrument for each songs during the intro, verse 1, verse 2, chorus, bridge...
VERY IMPORTANT: I uploaded this video for us. Please take some time to watch. It is a great workshop for worship bands that I uploaded from a DVD I have. This will be a VERY HELPFUL tool for us since we don't have much time to address these vitals for good worship!!!

Each song in the Set List below includes the following:
1.) Downloadable Sheet Music: The sheet music below is in the Key that we will be playing in. Please take some time to download your music from this webpage so that we all have the same music (chords). Mark up your music regarding the dynamics of your instrument for each song using the Youtube Video...where you will be playing or not playing... Listen for what your playing during the different parts of each song? By this preparation, you will have an idea of what you will be playing throughout the duration of the songs before we meet. IMPORTANT: I encourage you to listen specifically for any signature sounds which would involve your instrument for each of the given songs. It is often these signature sounds which give each song their inspired beauty during worship. For example, the signature sound of 10000 Reasons is the Piano/Keys and the kick drum. Other songs will have certain electric guitar sounds for intros etc... Also, during spontaneous worship I will choose 3 or 4 chords to playing repetitively.
2.) YouTube Link: The YouTube version of the song will help you to locate what you will be playing or not playing throughout the duration of the song: the intro, verses, chorus and bridge. Again, listen for those unique dynamics and signature sounds for each song (Take notes for your instrument). With the number of musicians on our worship team, we will need to be mindful not to overplay and muddy/clutter up the songs. Letting a song breathe is an important part of worship. Check out the worship video above! When we meet for our practices, I will also go over some basic signals that I will be using while leading the worship. As long as each person has a basic framework of each song in mind (regrading their instruments) there will be plenty of room for spontaneous worship.
IMPORTANT: be mindful that the YouTube versions of each song is in a different key than what we will be using. For this reason, the YouTube link is simply to help you to listen to the various dynamics and movements of your instrument throughout the duration of each songs intro, verses, chorus, and bridge (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitars, violin, keys, synth, bass, and drums). If you don't hear your instrument (the violin for example) in the certain songs, this does not mean that you won't be playing. Look for a place in the song where the violin would creatively compliment or enhance the worship.
3.) MY Recording: Finally, there is a downloadable file below of myself (Fr. Michael) singing through each of the songs with my guitar in the KEY that we will be using. This will help you to take your music and actually practice some of the dynamics of your instrument through the songs in the proper key.
