Discernment
Discernment is the acknowledgment that God speaks. But, it is also acknowledges the human spirit and the evil spirit. Discernment is a gift from the Holy Spirit which is rooted in a humble heart which is willing to listen to God's voice, his guidance, and direction. The gift of discernment enables us to discern the direction of our intercessory prayer for each Ablaze. Think of Ablaze as a school of prayer. We want to help people learn to listen to God's voice. No one is perfect, but we must provide a learning environment. Anything that we receive in prayer for Ablaze should always be in conformity with Sacred Scripture and Tradition (Catechism of the Catholic Church) - the teaching authority of the Church. Those discerning God's heart for Ablaze should seek God's heart primarily within the Scriptures and quotes from the Catechism. But we also welcome words of knowledge, images, songs, inspired video clips etc... God is Spirit and Life! God's Word is Alive and Active. When we cooperate with God's heart, great things will happen. Thy Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven!
Those discerning can ask God to show them anything that may be keeping Ablaze from becoming the upper room experience God desires for his Church. Keep in mind that we are all learning to listen to the Holy Spirit. For example, some have suggested more silence during the evenings. Another example might be, "Lord show us where the enemy is trying to block, infiltrate, or interfere with the movement of your Holy Spirit. Lord, show us your peoples hearts.... show us how to prayer for your Bride, the Church." We read in the scripture, "Be sober and alert the devil is prowling about like a roaring lion seeking souls to devour, resist him solid in your Faith." We join our hearts to Christ in the war for souls!
From Ablaze to Ablaze, someone via email can compile any scripture passages, Catechism quotes, words of knowledge, images, songs, video clips etc... that are given to each during their personal prayer times. I will look them over (Fr. Michael) and blast them out via email. Think of this simply as the fruits of each persons personal prayer for Ablaze. This is especially important for the the 'hidden lamb' dimension of Ablaze (those that have commited some part of their week to praying and fasting for Ablaze). The Hidden Lambs intercede for God's will to be done. Sharing the fruits of our prayer can also help the Music Ministry prepare for the evening. The Church is not merely an institution, She is Christ's Bride! She is a living presence of Christ's healing power in the world.
Prayer Commitment Suggestions:
1. ) You promise to try and attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as often as possible and ask Jesus to look generously on those souls that will attend the upcoming Ablaze Night. You promise to try and offer 5 Holy Communions in honor of the 5 Holy Wounds of Jesus asking the Father to bring souls into a deeper experience of communion with Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist.
2.) You promise to pray 5 Holy Rosary's asking our dearest Mother to grant the deepest graces of humility to souls during the upcoming Ablaze Night. We cannot receive God without Humility.
3.) You promise to try and pray 5 Divine Mercy chaplets in reparation for sin of lukewarmness committed against the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Christ. He is so passionate in his love for us! How He loves us...
4.) Like the Apostles and Blessed Virgin Mary at Pentecost, on the night of the Ablaze, you promise to try and gather in the designated place of the Ablaze Evening and you pray God's protection over the Ablaze Night (the people, the sound / video equipment, the peoples travels to and from etc...)
5.) You promise to try and remain in prayerful discernment during the Ablaze Night for the souls that are in attendance. This simply means that you offer the night of worship for these souls.
* During these prayer times it's important to be listening to what God is saying to you*
